The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

So much in life has happened in past few months! We welcomed a new addition to our family on September 21st, Mr. Finley Knox O'Dell and have welcomed two cousins as well! We are also in the process of moving to our first purchased home and have plans to soon renovate and get to baking! It has been a wild ride for all of us but we are so blessed! I am so thankful this time of year to all of my friends and family and new friends I have found through this business who have blessed my life and have allowed me to do what I love best! Thanks to all of you and I hope you have a very happy holiday season!

Cupcakes Galore!

It has been about a month since I last sat down to write up a wrap up. It is so amazing how time flies! This has been a really great past month. I have been really blessed by some great contacts and clients and have been asked to participate in some really great events very soon...if I don't pop before then! This past weekend I participated in the Otter Creek Church of Christ Christmas in July Festival! It was fun to see old and new friends and share some yummy holiday cupcakes with all of the guests. I have done a couple of huge cupcake weddings and am excited about getting some pictures of those events soon. In a couple of weeks I will be providing some dessert for Nashville Cream, a battle of the bands and sweets at the Cannery Ballroom put on by the Nashville Scene. For more info check out www.nashvillescene.com. I will have a selection of cupcake flavors for all to enjoy! I was also contacted by March of Dimes a few weeks ago to participate in their Signature Chefs Auction and Event in September, incidentally the day before my scheduled delivery! They pick people who they believe are the top 20 cooks/chefs in Nashville so this is a HUGE honor! I am so excited and hope that my bun is still in the oven so I can get them some sweets to share with all of the guests!
Here are a few pictures of some past events and cakes, ranging from first to eighteenth birthday and more. Enjoy and happy baking!

Time to Breath!

It has been so good to hear from many of you who have located me through my blog! I have been so busy with life, cakes and cooking these past few months that I have not had much time to catch everyone up on Ice This! I am going into my third trimester with my second baby boy so I am starting to slowly not see my feet or ankles. I have made some fun new creations in the past few weeks but like always, I have forgotten to take any pictures. If you are a client and have a photo of an Ice This creation you would like to share, please email the image to brookelit@hotmail.com. I would greatly appreciate it! From whales and ducks to giraffes and monkey's I have been creating just about every animal known to man out of sugar the past couple of months! This past week I also had my first cupcake wedding, only 400 of them, and was able to test out my new custom made cupcake stand! It turned out better then I expected and I hope the bride was as happy as I when she saw the 4' tower of sugary heaven! I promise to post pictures soon.
Have a great HOT holiday weekend. Happy Baking!

Diaper Cakes

In the past few months I have participated in a few shows for my cakes and have become friends with Jacqueline of baby2bnashville.com. If you are going to be throwing a shower for anyone or know of any who is expecting and you need to purchase a gift, baby2b offers a huge selection of amazing and sassy custom made diaper cakes. I happen to know of at least 15 people expecting right around the time I am due so I could easily keep Jaqueline busy for the next couple of months. She and her partner hand make each cake and can customize every aspect for the cake from the burp cloths and blankets to bows and trimmings. Unlike my cakes, hers can be shipped anywhere and will not melt or crumble on the way! Her work is beautiful and I highly recommend a baby2b diaper cake! By the way, I am expecting another boy :)

Long time, No blog

Just because I have not blogged lately doesn't mean that I have not been busy! Our life has been so full of surprises lately it is almost overwhelming. I am currently 18 weeks into my second pregnancy so that alone has made me forget almost everything and be too tired to remember what I didn't forget. Wrigley, my baby is a month away from being 3! It is hard to think of how fast three years has flown by! I want to just sit down and bottle him up right now and capture each word he says and each face he makes and pray that I never forget these precious moments! In the past couple of months I have had a cake showing at the lovely Spruce in Brentwood, had a cake on the cover of the Valentine's issue of the Nashville Scene, been in my best friends wedding and did her cake and been to Oklahoma for my mom to have a last minute health procedure! We have been so busy but life is really good and our cup is really running over. I have been so bad about taking pictures of some cakes (what's new?) but some of my clients have been kind enough to email me their orders and I am so glad. I have several weddings on the books so far for this summer so it looks like it is going to be a fun year coming up. Enjoy and happy baking!

Where's My Ben? I can't find him!

My good friend Julius turned 4 this year so I was commissioned to do another cake. His ratatouille cake I made last year was part of my "coming out" as a cake baker to the world. This year we decided to do a cake based off of his favorite book, Firefighters to the Rescue! In the book a little boy's dog is lost and found in the fire so I made sure Ben was also part of the cake. I did vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, just in case any of the 30 children decided to test out Carrington's stain resistant carpet!

Monkey Business

I have had a great start to my new year and hope you have as well. Here are some of my January Creations. Enjoy!

Real Fresh

I like pink. I am a girl, what can I say? But after spending hours on end looking at several cake related websites for the Nashville area I have decided that being part of that select group of people must require you to have a pink web page. So, for this new year I decided to change my page to something other then pink. I had to. It is like purchasing wall paper out of a book at Home Depot. I can't do that. I can't be a creative thinker in my kitchen when I know that 10,000 others are standing in their kitchens with the same images of apples or fruit just below their crown molding. It's like showing up to prom in the same dress as someone else. Therefore, Ice This has a new face for 2009. I hope you enjoy.

2008 was a crazy year for me and my family! We had many major life changes, some great and some not as great. But for Ice This is was an overall great year! I think I put out about 75 creations this past year and I was recognized twice by the Nashville Scene! Isn't that amazing?! I have my Best Of award hanging in my dining room and it is all I can do not to call the local electrician to add some fancy lighting.

I have had a busy past couple of months and hope to post pictures soon. I have been really bad about taking pictures of cakes! You would think with as much time as I spend creating and carving I would quickly grab my camera. Oh well. But, I have several pictures that have just arrived from some of my clients so I will post pictures soon. Promise.

2009 will start off with some really fun events for Ice This. I plan to participate in the Nashville Cake show at the end of February at Sweet Wise. The theme for the show is "Love Affair with Music City" so if you have any great ideas, please pass them along. I have come up with a design but it is always subject to change. My best friend is also getting married in March and in addition to being the mother of the ring bearer and a brides maid I will also be making the cake. I can't wait!! I did a taste test with her this past week and we all had a hard time not licking the platter! I think it might become a signature flavor in the near future! I will also be doing a few baby showers soon and birthday celebration cakes. It looks like it is going to be another great year.

Warm wishes to all of you for a happy new year! Let's all eat cake!
